What is the Threads character limit?

Threads allows up to 500 characters per post. This is the same limit as the Mastodon default and roughly twice the original Twitter limit. Meta may update this limit as the platform develops.

Do links count toward the Threads character limit?

Yes. Links in Threads posts count toward the 500-character limit, unlike on X/Twitter where URLs are shortened to a fixed length. Paste your full post including any links to see the actual character count.

Can I add images or videos to a Threads post?

Yes. Threads supports images, videos and carousels alongside text. The character limit applies to the text portion of the post.
